Drogba Backs African Stars To Break 22-Year ‘Best Player’ Jinx (Video)

Ivorian legend Didier Drogba has thrown his weight behind African players and that they are capable of ending the 22-year wait for the world’s Best Player Award.

No African has won the prestigious award since George Weah achieved the feat in 1995.

The closest an African has come to winning the award since then was when Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o made the final 3 shortlist in 2005.

When asked about the prospects of African players repeating Weah’s feat. The former Chelsea striker said: “We have African talents and we want to see them at the top. But they have to deserve it.”
