The Bulgarian star saw off fourth seed Thiem 6-3 5-7 7-5 in what was the opening match of the Pete Sampras Group.
While speaking after the win over his fourth seeded opponent, Dimitrov admitted that he was very nervous. He said: “I’m not going to lie – I was pretty nervous, my first match out here.”
