AUDIO: Delta Queens Coach Praises NWFL Board, Sets Sights On NWPL Title

Delta Queens coach Clifford Chukwuma has hailed the Nigeria Women Football League board led by Aisha Falode, saying that the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) has improved a lot this season.

The regular season – unlike in the past – ran smoothly without any walk over and the media interest in the league also increased to a large extent.

And only last week Wednesday (16 August), the first ever NWPL Super Four Championships draw was conducted in a ceremony that was attended by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

“I must tell you it’s been encouraging. There’s a lot of improvement. (As for) refereeing I have never got any course to complain, so we are really happy the way things are going,” Chukwuma stated at the NWPL Super 4 draw ceremony in Lagos.

Delta Queens are one of four teams that will clash in Benin City, Edo State for the season-ending Super Four tournament which has been scheduled for 11-16 September.

For a team that was in the fifth position in Group B by the end of the first round, it was really surprising to see them finish the regular season as Group leaders – overtaking Nasarawa Amazons in the process. However, it was thanks to their improved showing which saw them remain unbeaten in the second round.

Nonetheless, they now have Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons to wrestle for the title.

“There is no intimidation. The four teams are good enough. We are four good teams, the margin between the four teams is not wide, so I think we are good enough to play among them, we are good enough to win the league,” he asserts.
