Cricket: Nigeria Miss Out On 3rd Place As Kenya Win Kwibuka Tournament

Nigeria’s bid to finish the Kwibuka Women’s Tournament on a high ended on a sour note as the Female Yellow Greens fell to hosts Rwanda in the third-place match on Saturday.

Rwanda won the toss and elected to bat first posting a total of 112 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

In the second innings, Nigeria battled hard but fell agonisingly short of the required total to record 104 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs to lose the game by 8 runs.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Nigeria as Blessing Etim who was named player of the match in the win against Botswana made the team of the tournament.

The Female Yellow Greens will depart Kigali today, bidding farewell to an exciting tournament with loads of positives to take home.

Meanwhile, Kenya pulled off an upset in the final after dismissing tournament favourite Namibia for just 69 runs all out in 15.5 overs.

Namibia looked invincible throughout the tournament after winning all 5 matches on their way to the final and were spectacular in the 91-run victory against Nigeria in the semi-final.

Kenya quickly scored the required total of 72 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 11 overs to win the tournament for a record third time.
