Courtois Explains How He Missed Being Named Golden Glove Award Recipient

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he missed his announcement as the Golden Glove award winner at the just concluded Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament.

Courtois made this known in an interview with RTBF as he stated that he turned off his TV in the 94th minute of France’s 4-2 win over Croatia in the World Cup final.

The victory secured a second World Cup title for the French team.

Thibaut Courtois and Belgian team captain/club teammate Eden Hazard were highly critical of France’s negative approach in the 1-0 win over Belgium in their Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup semifinal clash.

In his words, Courtois said: “I turned off my TV in the 94th minute so as not to see the French celebrating their title.”

“When my friends told me it was me, I turned the TV back on and went back so that I could watch it ‘live.’ It’s an incredible honour. I’m happy to have made a lot of saves to help the team, but that’s not the most important thing. I wanted to go as far as possible.” He added.

The 26-year-old shot stopper was highly influential in Belgium’s run to third position at the tournament in Russia and was rightly given the Golden Glove award.
