“Corruption And Undue Interference” – Queen Uboh Resigns As President Of Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation

The President of Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation, Queen Uboh has resigned her position media reports say.

Ms Uboh reportedly handed in her resignation at the conclusion of the World Para Powerlifting World Cup on Friday.

Team Nigeria claimed 43 medals to emerge winners of the Abuja-held championship which also doubled as qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Ms Uboh had been embroiled in a long-running standoff with some board members of the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation on one hand and officials of the Ministry of Sports on another hand.

In an interview with Channels TV prior to the competition, Ms Uboh said a major cause of the faceoff between her and members of the PPFN board was because she refused to “share money” garnered from sponsorship for the championships.

Matters came to a head in the lead up to the World Para Powerlifting World Cup when she repeatedly clashed with the ministry over control of the tournament which bore the imprimatur of Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari.

Ms Oboh allegedly directed athletes to camp in Lagos against the sports ministry’s directive of camping in Abuja and on the opening day of the competition, she attempted to register a parallel team against the official Team Nigeria put forward by the ministry.

Media reports say she cited undue interference from the sports ministry and corruption as reasons for stepping down from her post.

Other sources say she jumped before being pushed with the board of the PPFN on the verge of impeaching her.
