Coronavirus: LMC Suspends Nigeria Professional Football League “Till Further Notice”

The 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League has been suspended in measures aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus the League Management Company announced on Wednesday.

The announcement comes on the heels of the suspension of the 20th National Sports Festival on Tuesday and after the conclusion of match day 25 round of fixtures on Wednesday.

The LMC had planned to keep the NPFL running but following the Federal Government’s decision to postpone the NSF, it has now decided to suspend the topflight “till further notice in line with global health preventive protocol against the Coronavirus”.

Nigeria joins Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco and South Africa as some African nations to have shut down their leagues.

Nigeria has witnessed a rise in COVID-19 cases with eight people now infected by the virus which originated in China and has claimed over 7,000 lives globally.
