Coronavirus Disrupts Coppa Italia, Foils AC Milan’s Trip

Juventus’ Coppa italia semi-final with AC Milan scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed over the increasing spread of coronavirus in Italy.

Officials on Tuesday had indicted the second leg tie would be played at the Allianz Stadium in Turin but residents from Milan would not be allowed to attend.

However a few hours later the clash was postponed, according to Italian outlet La Stampa. The first leg ended 1-1.

AC Milan were on their way to Turin when the fixture was shifted.

Effects across Europe include Valencia possibly hosting Atalanta behind closed doors in their Champions League return on March 10, while Inter’s Europa League game at home to Getafe nine nights later is also at risk.

A government decree has suspended all sporting events in regions affected by the coronavirus until March 8.

That has meant Juve’s game with Bologna will not go ahead. Atalanta vs Lazio, Inter vs Sassuolo, and Hellas Verona vs Napoli are the other games postponed this weekend.

A meeting is due to be held on Wednesday, March 4 with Serie A chiefs and representatives from clubs to decide the course of action over the remainder of the season.
