COMMONWEALTH GAMES: Female Wrestlers Shift Camp To Yenagoa

Team Nigeria Female wrestlers will continue their preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, after departing neighbouring Port Harcourt, where they camped for one week, on Saturday.

www.busybuddiesng.com gathered that the decision to move the female team to Yenagoa, was at the demand of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports had insisted that both the female and male wrestlers be camped in Port Harcourt as Nigeria began preparations for the Games slated for Gold Coast, Australia from 4-15 April, about two weeks ago.

But considering the huge prospects of the female team, who have consistently won medals for Nigeria in international competitions, the Wrestling Federation favoured a Yenagoa camp for the athletes to ensure closer supervision and monitoring.

The male wrestlers will, however, remain in the Rivers State capital for a continuation of the camping exercise.

Wrestling accounted for 12 of the overall 36 medals won by Team Nigeria at the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.
