Colombia Thrash Poland To Boost Qualification Hopes

Colombia have boosted their chances of securing a spot in the knockout stage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia after they thrashed Poland 3-0 at the Kazan Arena in Kazan to record their first victory in Group H.

Barcelona defender Yerry Mina gave the South Americans a well deserved lead via a header five minutes from the halftime interval.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists then wrapped up an important win with two goals in five second half minutes from AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado.

The win takes Colombia to within one point of the joint top duo of Japan and Senegal ahead of the final set of group games, while Poland bow out of the tournament following a second successive defeat.

Poland become the 9th country to be eliminated after Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Peru, Costa Rica, South Korea, Tunisia and Panama.

Colombia will now need to beat Senegal in their final group game to secure a place in the knockout stage.

On the other hand, Poland only have national pride to play for when they take on Japan in their final game of Russia 2018.
