Chinese Super League: Ighalo On Target As Mikel Returns To Action

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo continued his red-hot form on Saturday after he scored for Changchun Yatai in their 2-1 home loss to Shandong Luneng in a Chinese Super League Matchday 13 clash.

Ighalo, who was wearing the captain’s armband, shot his side into the lead on 24 minutes and could have doubled the lead with three first half minutes left but his shot was cleared off the line.

The visitors, however, scored two goals in the second half to take the maximum points at stake.

Ighalo was on from start to finish and has now scored two goals in two games since the league resumed after the World Cup tournament in Russia.

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi was also in action for his Chinese club, Tianjin Teda but was powerless as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Chongqing Dangdai Lifai.

The former Chelsea midfielder played 90 minutes on his return to the team after serving a mandatory one-game ban in the last round.

Ighalo and Mikel Obi featured for the Super Eagles as they crashed out of the just concluded FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia in the group stage.

The former Premier League duo played in all of Nigeria’s three Group D games.
