CAFCL: Rivers Utd Held At Home By Al Hilal

Rivers United needed a second-half own goal to salvage a result at home against Sudanese side Al Hilal who now hold the advantage after securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second qualifying round in Port Harcourt.

The visitors’ Mohamed Saeed Ahmed scored past his own goalkeeper in the 69th-minute to spare the blushes of Stanley Eguma’s side after Mohamed Abdelrahman had given Al Hilal the lead in the 35th-minute.

Rivers United play Hilal in Egypt next week and must secure a win on aggregate to move into the group stage of Africa’s premier inter-club competition. Hilal’s home ground in Omdurman was not approved by CAF.

Rivers United will have their work cut out for them against Hilal who seem to have made a habit of dumping Nigerian sides out of the Champions League having accounted for Enyimba in two of the last three seasons.
