CAFCL Review: Plateau, MFM Through To Next Round

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Plateau United and MFM FC of Lagos are through to the final qualifying round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) after aggregate wins over their respective opponents.

Plateau United defeated Eding Sport of Cameroon 1-0 in their 2nd leg clash courtesy Raphael Ayagwa’s 58th minute winner for an aggregate win of 4-0 despite playing the final minutes of the game with 10 men following Emma James’ sending off.

The Jos-based side will now face former champions Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the final qualifying round for a place in the CAFCL group stage.

Lagos-based side MFM are also through to the final qualifying round after they defeated AS Real Bamako of Mali 1-0 for a 2-1 aggregate win.

Chijioke Akuneto was the matchwinner for Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side as he scored the only goal of the game with five minutes left on the clock.

MFM will next face MC Algiers of Algeria for a place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League after their 9-2 aggregate victory over A.S. Otoho of Congo.
