CAFCC: Rivers United Progression ‘Very Possible’ – Anaemena (AUDIO)

Rivers United defender Ifeanyi Anaemena says it is ‘very possible’ for his side to advance to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup despite trailing 1-0 to Enyimba after the first leg in Aba on Sunday.

A 59th minute strike from midfielder Cyril Olisema condemned Stanley Eguma’s men to defeat in the first leg, but Anaemena, who joined Rivers United from Enyimba in the off season, believes the Pride of Rivers have what it takes to turn the tie around ahead of the second leg in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with www.busybuddiesng.com, the no-nonsense centre-back says his optimism is hinged on the fact that United have a lot of quality players in their ranks and their impeccable home form, which has seen them win six matches in all competitions so far.

“Yeah, very possible, very possible,” the former Giwa FC defender said when asked if he thinks Rivers United can still qualify to the group stage. “When they (Enyimba) scored the goal, I was just saying ‘God help us so that it will just finish in one goal tally’. And at the end of it, it was 1-0.

“So, I believe that when Enyimba comes to Port Harcourt for the second leg, by God’s grace, I believe we are going to turn that result around.

“We have a very good team, no doubt about that. And for the games we have played so far, both in CAF and in the NPFL, we’ve not lost at home.

“So, Enyimba is not going to stop us. So, I believe that we can qualify.”

The overall winners after the two legs will progress to the group stage of the competition; which no Nigerian team has won since its inception in 2004.
