Enyimba coach Fatai Osho has said the two-time African champions still have a ‘bright chance’ of advancing to the quarter-finals of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, despite going down 3-0 to Algerian side Entente Setif on Sunday.

Goals from Amir Karaoui, Mohamed Amoura and Akrem Djahnit condemned Osho’s men to a second defeat in as many away games in the group phase of the competition and resuscitated the qualification hopes of Setif.

Following Sunday’s loss, Enyimba dropped to second on the table, with 6 points, two points behind leaders Orlando Pirates (8pts), who thrashed Al Ahli Bengahzi 3-0 in the other fixture.

Both Setif and Al Ahli Benghazi now have 4 points in an open Group A, where all four teams have a mathematical chance of booking a place in the last 8 of the competition.

While acknowledging the brilliance of the Algerians, Osho blamed his players for making lots of ‘individual errors’, but remains optimistic his side will make amends in their subsequent games.

“The result here has shown that it is not a two-way thing, everybody in that group still stand a healthy chance of progression,” the former Remo Starts handler said.

“We knew what happened in South Africa today (Sunday), with the win, the Orlando (Pirates) team look good also.

“We still have a very bright chance, I must tell you. Setif is now in the race to qualification, and you can’t rule out Benghazi. It is quite good for African football, where there is a lot of competition amongst all the teams to qualify. It’s going to go to the last day, the way I see it.”

On his team’s performance and eventual loss to Setif, Osho said: “We’ve learnt a lot from this defeat, and I think we will be taking one or two lessons to Benghazi to see how we can [bounce back].

“We don’t have a reputation of this kind of performance.

“I want to repeat again, lots of individual errors. In as much as they did very well, the Setif team, but a lot of individual errors let us down. That’s a big lesson, and by the time we go to Benghazi, we’re going to be seeing a lot of difference.”

Enyimba will next travel to Libya to face Al Ahli Benghazi on 21 April, before wrapping up the group phase with a home game against South African giants Orlando Pirates on 28 April.
