Ahead of his side’s clash with Algerian giants Entente Setif on Sunday, Enyimba captain Austin Oladapo has reiterated his confidence on the ability of the 2-time African Champions to qualify for the quarter-finals of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

After three rounds of matches in Group A of the competition, the record 8-time Nigerian champions currently lead the standings with 6 points from 3 matches, a point ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates of South Africa. Libyan side Al Ahly Beghanzi are 3rd with 4points, while Entente Setif are bottom with a solitary point.

But with two away games against Entente Setif, whom they defeated 2-1 in Aba five days ago, and Al Ahly Benghazi, the former Kwara United star remains positive the People’s Elephants will advance to the last 8 of the competition, despite having to play only one home game (against Pirates) before the group phase comes to an end.

“Well, from the beginning I’ve always believed Enyimba will qualify,” Oladapo said. “Even when we saw the draws, everybody was saying ‘this is a group of death. Can Enyimba make it?’

“I’ve always told the Press one thing that ‘God will see us through from this group,’ and it is becoming a reality gradually. Six points, sitting on first (position) on the log. It’s a very big morale-booster to us.

“I think we should start thinking of how we are going to play in Algeria to get a desired result. I think a draw or even a win in that match will be a very big morale-booster to us, and then, we will come back and wrap it up in our home by the grace of God.

“I believe strongly that we will qualify from that group.”

Last season, Fatai Osho’s side reached the quarter-finals of the competition, losing to Guinean outfit AC Horoya over two legs. The People’s Elephants also advanced to the semi-finals in 2018, losing to eventual champions Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
