Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has promised players and officials of Rivers United the sum of N20m if they defeat Enyimba in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Playoff fixture in Aba on Sunday.

The Governor made this promise on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, while presenting two brand new luxury buses to Rivers United and Rivers Angels.

Enyimba host Stanley Eguma’s side in Aba on Sunday, while the reverse fixture will be in Port Harcourt on 21 February, with aggregate winners advancing to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

No Nigerian team has been able to win the CAF Confederation Cup since its inception in 2004, but Governor Wike charged Rivers United to be the first to do so and see their lives change for good.

In the same vein, he also promised to change the lives of the players and officials of reigning NWFL Premiership champions Rivers Angels if they eventually win the first-ever Women’s CAF Champions League, which will be staged later this year.

As a way of motivation, Gov. Wike also announced a-N10m incentive for Rivers United and Rivers Angels for any away match they win this season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the NWFL Premiership respectively.

The Governor also pledged the unflinching support of the State Government to ensure both teams win laurels this season.

“The State Government will not relent to give you all the necessary support that you require to make you bring trophies at the end of this season,” he promised.

“If you win the CAF (Confederation) Cup, your lives will change. The same thing applies to Rivers Angels; win the trophy, be the first that will go to play CAF (Champions League) in Africa, then also, your lives will change.

“As motivating factor, if you go and win Enyimba and come back, we’ll give you N20m.”

In addition to the cash promises and buses presented to both teams, ‘Mr. Project’ as he is fondly called, also handed two brand new ambulances to the two sides.

Earlier, owner of Go Round FC Felix Obuah also promised Rivers United N2m for a win against the 2-time African champions and an additional N200,000 for each goal they score in Aba on Sunday.
