Enyimba coach Finidi George says his side will be well-prepared and ready for their CAF Confederation Cup playoff tie against Libyan outfit Al Ittihad.
The two-time African champions Enyimba travel to Tripoli for the first leg on 28 November before returning to Aba for the reverse fixture on 5 December, with aggregate winners advancing to the group stages of the competition.
Speaking exclusively to www.busybuddiesng.com after the draws were conducted in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Tuesday, the former Super Eagles winger said his side was ready for any opposition prior to the draws.
“We have seen the draw against Al Ittihad,” the 50-year-old former Ajax and Real Betis star noted. “We’ll prepare very, very well for that game.
“If you are aspiring to do well in the CAF Confederation Cup, I think you have to be ready for any of the teams. We’ll prepare very, very well.
“Luckily for us, first game is away, and we will see how we can assess them.”
The former Real Mallorca youth team coach, however, dismissed suggestions that his team have the advantage by playing at home first, adding that the 8-time Nigerian champions will work hard to secure a ‘good result’ in Tripoli.
“Playing the first game away doesn’t really mean anything,” the 1994 AFCON winner said. “And coming home, this is CAF competition, everything is possible. You just have to do your homework very, very well to make sure that you don’t get beaten so easily.
“So, we’ll try and do our best to make sure that we play good football. And inasmuch as we’re trying to play football, we’ll try to have a good result over there. When we get home, definitely, we’ll do our homework again and make sure we get a good result. So, that’s what we are going to do.
“It’s never easy playing these competitions, but we know what it takes, Enyimba has been there before. We know what it takes to play games like this and we’ll get the boys prepared for that game.”
Enyimba reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2018, and in the last two seasons, crashed out at the quarter-final stage.
