Enyimba are in danger of missing their CAF Confederation Cup play-off first leg against Al Ittihad with the Nigerian side currently stranded in Casablanca, Morocco and prevented from entering Tunisia over Covid-19 vaccination requirements.
Enyimba were drawn to face Al Ittihad on Sunday, 28 November, with the first leg scheduled for the home of the Libyan side.
Enyimba claim neither CAF nor their opponents provided clear details of the match venue despite numerous requests for clarity from the Nigerians.
The Nigerian side, therefore, assumed the encounter would be played at the Martyrs of February Stadium in the Libyan city of Benghazi where Al Ittihad play their continental ties and made travel arrangements accordingly, including carrying out necessary Covid-19 PCR tests.
However, a late directive from CAF listing Tunisia as the match venue upended their plans and left Enyimba racing against time to make the necessary travel arrangements.
Their travel path saw them arrive the Muhammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Thursday where they were informed that each member of the team must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination before onward transit to Tunisia. The Enyimba contingent was not prepared for this detail and consequently, can not satisfy international entry requirements into Tunisia.
Alternatively, the team would have to quarantine for seven days in a government-approved hotel in Tunis before being allowed into the country but with the game scheduled for Sunday, a week-long quarantine would be impractical.
Busybuddiesng.com understands that efforts by the Nigerian embassy in Tunisia to get special waivers for the team have been unsuccessful.
CAF has yet to intervene in the matter at the time of writing.
As a result of the development, the Enyimba contingent was forced to spend the whole of Thursday at the Muhammed V International Airport in Casablanca, without food and in the cold as their Moroccan transit visas prevents them from accessing the city.
The team remains stranded in Casablanca at the time of writing, and with no direction from CAF over the next course of action, Enyimba might be forced to abandon the Confederation Cup encounter against Al Ittihad.
