CAFCC: Enyimba Hopes Hang By A Thread After Pyramids Thrashing

Enyimba face an uphill task to make the last four of the Confederation Cup after they fell to a 4-1 thrashing at Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

The Nigerian’s have fared badly on previous trips to North Africa in the competition but thought they were on their way to banishing their ill-luck when Victor Mbaoma shocked fans at the 30 June Stadium with the opener inside the opening seconds.

Enyimba’s lead lasted only fifteen minutes, however, as Ramadan Sobhi equalised as both teams went into half time level.

The home side turned it up a notch after the interval and Enyimba’s resolve gave way as Abdalla El Said and a brace from Ibrahim Adel completed the rout.

The result leaves two-time African champions Enyimba who also fell at this stage last season on the verge of another elimination in the last-16 except they’re able to conjure a miracle in the return fixture in Aba next week.
