CAF President Ahmad Storms Port Harcourt To Lay Foundation Of Real Madrid Academy (AUDIO)

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad will be in Port Harcourt on 28 May-the day Nigeria’s Super Eagles are billed to face Congo DR in a pre-World Cup friendly- to perform the foundation stone laying ceremony of the state-of-the-art Real Madrid Academy.

This was disclosed by Rivers State Governor Barrister Nyesom Wike on Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt during a solidarity rally in his honour by the Sporting Community in the state.

“On 28th of May (2018), the foundation will be laid. People are coming from Spain; from the Real Madrid Academy, and the CAF President (Ahmad) will be here to lay the foundation,” Governor Wike, who was recently conferred with the prestigious Power of Sports In Africa award by the Association of International Sports Press (AIPS) said.

The Governor equally highlighted some of the benefits the state will reap from the Academy.

“And I want to say it gives opportunity to our young girls and young boys.

“The agreement we have is such that all over the Real Madrid website, we intend to advertise Rivers State. So Rivers State today will be in Real Madrid website anywhere you want to.

“We have our young men who want to be coaches; who will be trained in Spain. We have our young boys and girls who want to go and play football in Spain. That’s part of the partnership we are trying to have, and it is for the interest of all of us.

“So I want to say that come May 28th, we will lay the foundation of the Real Madrid Academy in Rivers State, and to the glory of God.”

On why he decided to bring Real Madrid Academy to the state, Wike said: “You know the best in the world today is Real Madrid. Why am I saying so? We are not local champions.

“It’s not for me to win La Liga, it’s not for me to win premiership. No! It is for me to win the Championship (UEFA Champions League). And the only club in Europe that has shown capacity to win back-to-back, to even win for the third time (in a row) is Real Madrid.

“And so I said ‘because of that, I will bring the only academy that the whole world will know, and our youths will want to partner and be involved’.”
