CAF CC: Rangers Finally Bend The Knee To L’Étoile

After a long run of unbeaten games, Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers International Football Club were brought to their knees when they faced Étoile Sportive du Sahel in their CAF Confederation Match Day 3 fixture at the Stade Olympique de Sousse in Sousse, Tunisia on Sunday.

Rangers looked like they were going to get what would have turned out to be an impressive feat away when Bright Silas finished off a heading assist from Michael Uchebo, running past two defenders to slot the ball past Makram Bediri.

The home side will not go down without a fight, however, many of their chances after the goal deficit came to naught.

Étoile’s breakthrough came in the 35th minute from one of Rangers’ many flaws of the night. A set piece from Malek Bayou connected Iheb Msakni’s head to find the back of the net bringing L’Étoile leveled.

The final sinking came for the Enugu based side – earning their first loss in the competition and L’Étoile’s first win in the group stage – when a 64th-minute scramble in The Flying Antelopes’ box gave Ben Aziza an unhindered goal.

The loss takes Gbenga Ogunbote’s lads third in Group B with 4 points and they will look to give a better performance when they host the Tunisian side at The Cathedral, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on the 3rd of March.
