Schalke 04 have boosted their hopes of finishing the current season in the top two following their latest win, a slim 1-0 away victory over relegation battlers Mainz 05 in their Matchday 26 Bundesliga clash on Friday night.

Daniel Caligiuri was the hero for the visitors as he struck with ten second half minutes gone to hand his side the three maximum points at stake.

Schalke 04 are still in second spot despite the win but they move to 46 points and within 17 points of league leaders Bayern Munich.

They have also moved four points clear of third placed Borussia Dortmund while their opponents languish in the relegation playoff place (16th spot) with 25 points.
