Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt have boosted their hopes of securing a top four spot and a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) after they won their respective German Bundesliga games on Saturday.
Frankfurt thrashed Mainz 05 3-0 at home courtesy goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic to leapfrog Bayer Leverkusen into 4th position.
On the other hand, Schalke 04 consolidated their position as the second placed team with a hard fought 1-0 win at VFL Wolfsburg with a Robin Knoche own goal gifting the visitors the three points at stake four minutes from time and some ten minutes after Dutch international defender Paul Verhaegh had missed a penalty for the home side.
