Bundesliga Review: Mainz-Wolfsburg Clash Ends In Stalemate

Relegation threatened sides Mainz 05 and VFL Wolfsburg fail to clearly move away from the drop as both sides played out a 1-1 draw in their German Bundesliga Matchday 24 clash on Friday.

Visitors Wolfsburg could even count themselves a little unfortunate after they hit the post twice either side of the halftime interval.

Josip Brekalo scored his first goal for the away side on 6 minutes before midfielder Joshua Guilavogui hit the post as Wolfsburg missed out on the chance to go 2-0 up.

Substitute Yoshinori Muto made Wolfsburg pay as he levelled for the hosts just before the end of first half.

The former champions continued to dominate proceedings after the interval and they came close to snatching the maximum points six minutes from time but midfielder Daniel Didavi hit the post in what was a huge let-off for the home side.

Wolfsburg (25 points) in 14th spot have now moved two points clear of the relegation playoff spot presently occupied by Werder Bremen (23 points and 16th position) while Mainz 05 (24 points) move one place and one point clear of the relegation playoff spot from 16th to 15th spot.
