VfB Stuttgart have moved into the top eight on the German Bundesliga table after in-form Mario Gomez scored twice to lead his team to a 2-1 win at Freiburg in a Matchday 27 league clash on Friday night.

German international striker Gomez gave the visitors an early lead in the 4th minute before Nils Petersen produces a first half equaliser for Freiburg.

Gomez then went on to scored the winning goal with a quarter of an hour left on the clock to gift his side the maximum points on offer.

The victory takes Stuttgart two places from 10th to 8th spot with 37 points while Freiburg stay in 14th place with 30 points as they are still five points clear of Mainz 05 who occupy the relegation playoff spot.
