Bundesliga Review: Frankfurt Into Champions League Places After Leipzig Win

Eintracht Frankfurt continue to defy the odds in the German Bundesliga this season in the keenly contested race for next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) with the latest victory coming against rivals RB Leipzig.

The UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaigners are one of the many teams vying for a UCL spot alongside Frankfurt but they were dealt a huge blow after they were beaten 2-1 on Monday night despite taking the lead against their hosts.

Timothy Chandler and Kevin Prince Boateng scored for Frankfurt in the 21st and 26th minute respectively to overturn the deficit caused by Jean Augustin’s 13th minute opener for Leipzig.

The crucial win was enough to lift Frankfurt (39 points) above their opponents and three places from 6th to 3rd spot (one of the UCL places) while Leipzig (38 points) drop out of the UCL spots from 4th to 5th position.
