Bundesliga Review: Bayern Maintain 18-Point Lead Over Chasing Pack With Slim Schalke Win

German champions Bayern Munich have maintained their 18-point advantage at the Bundesliga summit following their hard earned 2-1 win over European hopefuls Schalke 04 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski scored for an 11th consecutive home game to equal the record of his coach Jupp Heynckes thus giving the Bavarian giants a 6th minute lead.

Former Wigan Athletic striker Franco Di Santo equalised for the visitors before Thomas Muller struck nine minutes from the interval to edge his Bayern Munich side back in front.

Second half proceedings didn’t lead to any other goal as Bayern preserved their lead to increase their advantage to 18 points after it had been cut down to 15 points as a result of Leipzig’s win on Friday night.

Borussia Dortmund are up to third place after Michy Batshuayi scored his third goal to 2 games to help his new side to a 2-0 home win over relegation battlers Hamburg.

Mario Gotze got the other goal for the Signa Iduna Park giants.
