Brilliant Ighalo Upstages Rooney As Man United Cruise Into FA Cup Quarterfinals

Odion Ighalo marked his second start for Manchester United with a brace as the Red Devils made easy work of Derby County to set up a quarterfinal tie at Norwich City in the FA Cup.
The on-loan Nigeria striker has clearly found form in Cup competitions having scored his debut goal exactly a week ago in his first start for the club against Club Brugge in the Europa League.
The 30-year-old scored United’s second at Pride Park 8 minutes after an unusual Luke Shaw goal gave them a 31st-minute lead as the Red Devils went into the interval two goals up.
United dominated proceedings after the break and duly got their third 25 minutes into the half.
Ighalo’s initial shot with his right foot was blocked on the line but the striker was alert to blast the rebound into the roof of the net with his left to grab his first brace in English football since scoring twice for Watford against Liverpool in a Premier League tie in December 2015.
It was also the first time he’ll score in consecutive starts in all competitions for English clubs since December 2015 for Watford, when he scored in four in a row.
Ighalo now has three goals for the Old Trafford club in six appearances since his January move.
It proved to be an unhappy reunion for Derby captain and United’s record scorer Wayne Rooney as he was upstaged by the Nigerian whose showing once more justified United’s surprise move to sign him in January.
United are next in action on Sunday in the Premier League when they take on bitter rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
