Brighton Sign Four Players On Deadline Day

Brighton and Hove Albion completed the signing of four players, mostly defenders, on deadline day.

The quartet of Martin Montoya, Dan Burns, Peter Gwargis and Leo Skiri Ostigaard joined the Seagulls in respective deals just before the end of the transfer window.

Former Barcelona defender Montoya signs for Brighton from Spanish outfit Valencia for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old Spanish right-back has penned a four-year deal at the Amex Stadium.

While speaking about the two-time La Liga champion, Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: “Martin’s pedigree is excellent, and I’m delighted we have been able to add a player of his standing to our squad. There’s no doubt he will improve our options in the right-back position.”

“He’s won several domestic and European honours in Spain, and played the majority of his career in the top level of La Liga. He has a wealth of experience, at 27 years old he is a very good age, and I’m looking forward to working with him.” He concluded.

English defender Dan Burns, 26, joins the Seagulls from English Championship side Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 6ft 7in player has signed a four-year deal but will return to Wigan until January 1 as he recovers from an injury he sustained in pre-season.

That benefits both Dan and ourselves as it will enable him to get fully up to speed in terms of fitness before January.” said Hughton.

“He’s an imposing figure and had an excellent season helping Wigan to the League One championship. He also impressed in an excellent FA Cup run to last season’s quarter-finals.” The former Newcastle United added.

Fellow defender Leo Skiri Ostigaard also joined Brighton on deadline day.

The 18-year-old joins from Norwegian side Molde for an undisclosed fee and the Norwegian will initially team up the club’s U23.

Another new signing Peter Gwargis will link up with the U23 for the new season.

The 17-year-old midfielder signed for Brighton from Swedish second-tier side Jonkopings Sodra IF for an undisclosed fee.

He has signed a three-year deal with the Premier League outfit.
