BREAKING: Cyriel Dessers Latest Super Eagle Player To Be Affected By Coronavirus

New Super Eagle invitee Cyriel Dessers won’t be lining up for Dutch club Heracles Almelo after the top two leagues in the Netherlands were postponed on Thursday over coronavirus fears.

The 25-year-old who recently earned a maiden call up to the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header with Sierra Leone later this month had been due to feature for his club at PEC Zwolle this weekend.

The decision to call of the league for the next two rounds of matches at least follows the Dutch government’s ban on events of more than 100 people.

In a statement, the Eredivisie said: “All matches in the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Divisie [second tier] have been suspended for the next two match days because of the coronavirus outbreak.”

Ajax currently lead the top flight on goal difference from AZ Alkmaar while Heracles are eighth.

Dessers who was born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother is the Eredivisie’s joint top scorer with 15 goals.
