Brazil, Switzerland Qualify For Knockout Stage In Group E

Brazil and Switzerland have qualified for the knockout stage in Group E of the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Five-time Champions Brazil defeated Serbia 2-0 in their final group game courtesy goals from Paulinho and Thiago Silva either side of halftime to emerge as Group E winners.

The result extended the Selecao’s unbeaten run to 14 games.

On the other hand, Switzerland finished runners-up after they played out a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica who twice came from behind to get their solitary point of a forgettable World Cup campaign.

Blerim Dzemaili gave the Swiss a first half lead that was cancelled out by Kendall Watson on 56 minutes.

Substitute Josip Drmic gave Switzerland the lead for a second time with two minutes only for the Costa Ricans to earn a share of the spoil in added time through a Yann Sommer own goal off a Bryan Ruiz penalty.

Brazil will now face Group F runners-up Mexico in the last 16, while Switzerland do battle with Group F winners Sweden.
