Born to score: Arnaut Danjuma

The young Dutch footballer arrived in LaLiga Santander this summer with the aim of scoring many goals in a Villarreal CF shirt. It has been a spectacular start for the player as he has netted four times from six league outings.

For Arnaut Danjuma, born in Lagos to a Dutch father and Nigerian mother, football was always an outlet during a tough childhood. The ball was a companion and scoring goals was his hallmark. At the age of just 18, the Dutch winger made his debut as a professional footballer, completing his childhood dream. After successful periods playing in the Netherlands, Belgium and England, Danjuma decided to move to Villarreal CF in the 2021 summer transfer window.

The left winger has adapted seamlessly to the competition and to the style of play of Unai Emery’s side. To start off his first season in Spain’s topflight, the Netherlands international has scored four times across six league matches, four of which he has started.

In the most recent round of LaLiga Santander action, the Dutch forward stood out above all others on the pitch of the Estadio de la Cerámica. The Yellow Submarine defeated Real Betis 2-0 thanks to Danjuma’s magnificent brace. The first goal came right at the end of the first half as he shot just inside the right post of goalkeeper Rui Silva, netting at a decisive moment of the match to give his team a confidence boost ahead of the second half.

The Danjuma show didn’t stop there, though, as he then struck again in the 69th minute, scoring his and his team’s second goal of the evening. Moi Gómez put his new teammate through on goal and the winger made no mistake as he buried the one-on-one chance against Rui Silva, rounding the goalkeeper and keeping up his impressive start to the season.
