The disciplinary body of CONMEBOL has rejected Boca Juniors’ call for River Plate to be disqualified based on the trouble that took place outside the Estadio Monumental on the day the Copa Libertadores final second leg was originally scheduled to be played.
The next option for Boca Juniors is to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
According to media reports, the result of Sunday’s rescheduled second leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu will have a major influence on whether or not they will appeal to the Switzerland-based sports court.
In other words, if they win on the pitch then they are expected to drop the case, but if they lose then they could take it further.
From CONMEBOL’s point of view, the change of stadium and loss of home advantage is sufficient punishment for River Plate.
