Baylesa Queens Draw to Retain Hopes for Final

Baylesa Queens finally kicked off their campaign in the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super4 as they forced Delta Queens to a 1-1 draw in the second match of Matchday Two.

Baylesa Queens who had lost their first game against Nasarawa Amazons on Monday by a lone goal, came out the more fired up team of the two sides and had the ball in the back of the net after only three minutes, only for them to be denied by the assistant referee who flagged for offside.

That seemed to spark Delta Queens into life as they responded by asking series of questions from the Baylesa Queens back line and were duly rewarded with a goal in the 21st minute as Adebisi Saheed, who has been outstanding upfront for the team so far in this competition converted a long pass from Etim beyond Alaba to give the Kwale ladies the lead of the game.

The Kwale ladies continued to give a great showing of themselves in attack but were made to pay for the missed chances when Tessy Biawho restored parity for Baylesa Queens in the 29th minute of the game. The game continued at an exciting pace with chances been created at both ends but none was taken by either team which meant the first half ended as a draw.

The second half continued at the same pace the first half ended with both sides looking to get a winner in the game. Both coaches made attacking substitutions to aid their various teams in getting the winning goal but it wasn’t to be as the match ended in a draw – the first of the competition thus far.

This means that Delta Queens go second on the log with four points behind Nasarawa Amazons who have a perfect record in the competition thus far having won their first two games. Baylesa Queens have just the one point, but may still qualify if they win their final group game against River Angels and the Kwale ladies lose to Nasawara Amazons.

The matches would be played on Thursday (12-10-2017) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and it’s Nasarawa Amazons against Delta Queens by 2:00pm while Rivers Angels be up against Baylesa Queens by 4:00pm.
