Barcelona Set New Unbeaten Record With Slim Valencia Win As They Extend Lead At The Summit

Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona have set a new unbeaten league record of 39 games following their slim 2-1 win over Valencia at home in a Matchday 32 clash.

Luis Suarez gave the hosts a first half lead for his 23rd league goal of the season before French defender Samuel Umtiti added a second goal just after halftime.

Valencia captain Dani Parejo halved the deficit from the spot but it was too little too late for the Los Che as Barcelona extend lead at the summit to 14 points.

The new unbeaten record surpasses the previous record of 38 games set by Real Sociedad across the 1978/79 and 1979/80 season.

Barcelona are now six results away from the first unbeaten 38-game La Liga season and also need just seven more points to seal the league title.

They will play Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final next weekend in the bid for a domestic double.
