Barcelona Overpower Catalan Rivals Espanyol To Secure Last Copa Del Rey Semifinal Spot

Holders Barcelona have secured the last Spanish Copa Del Rey semi-final slot after they overturned a 1-0 first leg deficit to beat Catalan rivals Espanyol 2-1 on aggregate.

The in-form Barcelona duo of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored in the first quarter of their second leg clash with Espanyol at the Nou Camp to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.

Messi’s strike was the 4,000th goal scored at the match venue and he accounts for 7.7% of those goals.

The Argentine superstar came closest to scoring after he hit the post in the second half as his Barcelona side closed out the game to join the likes of Sevilla, Valencia and Leganes in the last four of the competition.

New signing Philippe Coutinho played his first game for the club as a second half substitute for Andres Iniesta.
