Barcelona Extend La Liga Lead Despite Vigo Draw

Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona have extended their lead at the top of the table to 12 points despite being forced to a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo in their Matchday 33 clash at the Balaidos on Tuesday evening.

Ousmane Dembele’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Jonny’s leveller for Celta Vigo on the stroke of halftime as both sides cancelled each other out in the first half.

Paco Alcacer then edge Barcelona ahead again in the 64th minute only for Sergio Roberto to be shown his marching orders for a straight red card seven minutes later.

Celta Vigo made the extra player count with Spanish international forward Iago Aspas netting a second equaliser for his side eight minutes from time as both sides earned the share of the spoil.

The draw was enough to move Barcelona (83 points) 12 points clear of nearest challenger Atletico Madrid in the race for the league title having played a game more than the capital club.

Ernesto Valverde’s side are now one win away from being crowned champions though they could secure the title earlier if Atletico Madrid fail to gain at least a point in their league game at Real Sociedad.

On the other hand, Celta Vigo stay in 9th spot with 44 points despite the draw salvaged.
