AUDIO: We’re Not Yet In The Title Race – Dogo

Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United Kabiru Dogo has said the ‘Solid Miners’ are not yet in the title race despite beating Sunshine Stars 1-0 away from home to move within touching distance of continental spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) standings.

Forward Bashir Abdulrahman scored in the first half to hand Nasarawa United their first away win of the season on Sunday at Ijebu-Ode.

The Lafia-based outfit are now placed 9th on the log with 41 points from 29 matches, five points behind 3rd-placed Akwa United, who occupy the last continental spot on the league table.

Reacting to the win over Sunshine Stars, the former ABS handler praised his team for their effort.

“It’s a very big victory for us and I say congratulations for my side,” said Dogo.

“It is something we’ve been looking for, for long, but thank God our efforts have paid off today (Sunday). It’s a big day for us.

“Anybody that watched the game will know that, definitely, the team has improved well and the team is playing good football. So we thank God for what we achieved today (Sunday).”

On the title race, Dogo maintained that it is still open and added that Nasarawa United are on course to push for it.

He added that his team won’t be carried away by the away win against Sunshine Stars.

“Not yet but we are on course because I know that nobody has been declared winner of the league (NPFL) or relegated. Everybody is still fighting and I know that, definitely, if we (Nasarawa United) continue to fight like this, I know that we are going to achieve more of these points.

“This result is something we have to be very careful with because the last time a team (Sunshine Stars) won an away game, they lost at home.

“So we are going to learn a lesson from this victory against Sunshine Stars so that we can work on our next home game against a title-chasing team, El kanemi Warriors.

“We have a target we have set for ourselves and by God’s grace, we are going to achieve that target,” he stated.

Nasrawa United will next face El Kanemi Warriors at home in lafia as the NPFL enters Match Day 30 this midweek.
