AUDIO: Rohr To Ring Changes Against Algeria In World Cup Qualifier

Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has promised to make at least six changes to his team when Nigeria confront Algeria in a dead-rubber 2018 World Cup Qualifier in Constantine on Friday.

Injuries to regulars Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses, Moses Simon, Elderson Echiejile and Ogenyi Onazi ahead of the inconsequential fixture, means the Franco-German tactician could be handing starting shirts to the likes of Anthony Nwakaeme, Henry Onyekuru, Uche Agbo, Ola Aina, John Ogu and Chidozie Awaziem, who have been on the fringes lately.

“It is an opportunity to see a lot of players who didn’t play so much during the World Cup Qualifiers because we had our (full) team but now we have six injured players,” said the former Burkina Faso and Gabon coach.

“There would be at least six changes (against Algeria) and it is an opportunity to see players who didn’t play so much.”

Despite failing to win a match in 5 attempts during the qualifiers, Rohr is wary of the Algerians, stating that they will be ‘very aggressive’ when both sides clash on Friday.

“It will be very interesting to play in Algeria in these conditions,” Rohr said.

“They are changing the coach, they absolutely want to win a game at home, and they haven’t done that yet.

“So they will be very aggressive. I know this team. They have one of the best players in Africa-Riyad Mayrez. They have (Islam) Slimani, (Yacine) Brahimi and some others.

“It will be very, very interesting to see our players who would be playing for the first time, perhaps, new players are arriving and to see what they are doing.

“We only had three days to prepare,” stated Rohr.

Nigeria, who are already through to the 2018 World Cup in Russia will also face two-time Champions, Argentina in an international friendly match on Tuesday in Krasnodar, Russia.
