Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of midfielder Rodri ‘Rodrigo Hernandez’ from fellow top flight side Villareal.
Rodri, 22, returns to the club after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract in a deal worth €20m plus €5m in variables.
He was unveiled at a small ceremony earlier on Friday and will wear the no. 14 shirt recently vacated by club legend Gabi who has moved to Qatar.
The one-cap Spanish international started his football career in the Atletico Madrid youth team before moving to Villareal in 2013 where he rose through the ranks to become an important first teamer.
While speaking about his new team during his unveiling, Rodri said: “Atletico aspire to win everything and that is in sight.”
“In the last few years, they have been in Champions League finals and always among the best in Europe.
“They have managed to get close to those who we believe are the best teams. They have the best squad in LaLiga.” He concluded.
