Argentina World Cup Blow As First Choice Goalkeeper Romero Is Ruled Out Of Tournament

Two-time world champions Argentina have been dealt a huge blow following the news that first choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero will miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Romero has been an important member of the Argentina squad that reached the final of the last three major tournaments (2014 World Cup, 2015 Copa America and 2016 Copa America) they were involved in.

The Manchester United shot stopper will miss the tournament as a result of a knee injury.

He had earlier been named by manager Jorge Sampaoli as part of a 23-man final World Cup squad alongside goalkeepers Willy Caballero of Chelsea and River Plate’s Franco Armani.

Argentina, who confirmed the devastating news via Twitter also revealed that Romero requires surgery on his right knee and that Nahuel Guzman, of Liga MX side Tigres, will now take his place in the team. .
