Argentina Win Fallout: Rohr Singles Out Two Players For Praise

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has singled out two players for praise following his team’s impressive 4-2 win over 2-time world champions Argentina.

The former Gabon coach praised the impact of debutants Francis Uzoho and Brian Idowu after the duo came on as halftime substitute for Daniel Akpeyi and Ola Aina respectively to help Nigeria recover from a 2-1 deficit.

Rohr was speaking at his post-match press conference as monitored by Sport Express Russia. He said: “Brian is a team newcomer, but he’s not the only one. We have three new players, and I would like to highlight our 19-year-old goalkeeper Uzoho. He played well.”

”Such matches are specially designed so that we can evaluate new players in the team. We have three players who have a special relationship with Russia. There’s also Ahmed Musa and the captain of the team, he has a connection here through the family.

”Brian played well, scored a goal. His prospects depend on how he will perform at the club. His debut, I’m happy.

”On his position we have other options, so who will play better will be in the team.” he concluded.

With the scoreline at 2-1 in favour of the Argentines, Arsenal star Alex Iwobi equalised for the Super Eagles before Brian Idowu marked his debut with a goal to put his team 3-2 up. Iwobi wrapped up the victory with his brace as the Eagles claimed a big scalp in ‘nemesis’ Argentina.
