Another Super Falcon Grabs Headlines in Spain As Real Madrid Defeat Espanyol

Super Falcons midfielder Rita Chikwelu scored a brace to help Real Madrid’s female team beat Espanyol 3-1 on Sunday in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola.

Chikwelu joined the Spanish side on loan from the Swedish side Kristadad with an option of a permanent move.

She opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the encounter before Ines equalised six minutes into the second half.

The Nigerian proved her mettle by grabbing another goal to make it 2-1 for the Madrid Ladies in the 80th minute before Geyse added the third goal in the 88th minute.

The 31-year-old was in action for the entirety of the match on her third appearance this term and has scored three goals in as many matches.

The win helped Oscar Fernandez’s side move up to 11th position in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola table after gathering 18 points from 17 games.

Chikwelu will hope to continue her impressive form when she confronts Super Falcons teammate Osinachi Ohale’s Tacón in a Madrid derby on February 2.

Asisat Oshoala is the other Nigerian in the Spanish women’s league who has been finding the back of the net often.

Oshoala joined Barcelona last season from Chinese side Dalian Quanjian FC on a loan deal with an option of a permanent move.

She impressed with seven goals and got to sign a permanent contract.

The Super Falcon became the first African to play in the finals of the women’s UEFA Champions League where Barcelona lost to 1-4 to Lyon. The 25-year-old scored the only goal for her club in that final clash.

Three weeks ago, she was crowned Africa’s best female player for a record fourth time.
