Amos Nijel Targets IAAF Continental Title Defence (Video)

Botswana runner Amos Nijel has set his sights on retaining his title at this year’s IAAF Continental Cup tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic next month.

Nijel won the 800m event at the last edition in Marrakesh, Morocco in 2014 with a time of 1.44.88m and is hoping to repeat the same feat in Ostrava.

The 2018 IAAF Intercontinental Cup will run from September 8 to 9 and it’s expected to feature 40 events.

Amos Nijel was speaking after he defended his 800m title at the African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State at the weekend.

He won gold in the 800m race with a time of 1.45.20s ahead of Kenyan silver medallist Emmanuel Korir (1.45.65s) and Moroccan bronze medallist Moustafa Smaili (1.45.90s).

In his words, Amos Nijel said: “I am a defending champion again, I will be at the Intercontinental Cup to make it happen.”
