All African Games Selection A Continous Process – AFN (AUDIO)

The recently concluded Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) All-Comers National Athletics Championships which held at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode at the weekend will not be the only avenue to select athletes for the African Games (formerly All African Games) which will hold in Morocco from 15th to 30th August, 2019 according to the Technical Director of the Federation Sunday Adeleye.

The season-opening All-Comers meet had been advertised by the AFN as “open trials” to select athletes for the African Games but Adeleye however told busybuddiesng.com that selecting athletes for the African Games will be “a continuous process”.

“The selection for All African Games is a continuous process,” Adeleye told busybuddiesng.com.

“It’s not like we are just going to select them at once, so we are going to keep selecting so that it’s a pool. When you are doing well you know that you are doing well, if you’re not doing well and somebody goes faster than you then you drop and another person moves in.

“So we keep evaluating ourselves till we get to that level where we have our closed camp and full concentration with the athletes we are going with to the All African Games.”

Enoch Adegoke and Rosemary Chukwuma emerged winners in the men and women’s 100m with times of 10.62s and 11.87s respectively.
