Akwa United FC today unveiled 12 new players at the Nest of Champions for the forthcoming Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season which is set to kick off on January 13, with the Uyo based club starting their campaign with a home fixture against Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
The Promise Keepers new recruits include record scorer for most goals in a single NPFL season, Mfon Udoh, Super Eagles defender and 2013 AFCON winner Juwon Oshaniwa, Brazilian midfielder and 2016 Federation Cup winner Alberico Barbosa Da Silva, three-time Nigerian league winner and former junior international Markson Ojobo, Home-based Super Eagles defender Emeka Atuloma and Nigerian under-23 striker Ndifreke Effiong.
Others players include; Cameroonian international goalkeeper Jean Efala, Ivorian central defender Blaise Adou, 2016 NPFL winner Ocheme
Akwa United will hope to clinch their maiden NPFL title this term, with the elusive title calling into question the pedigree of past teams assembled by the former FA Cup champions.
