AITEO Cup champions Akwa United have moved into the top four on the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) league table following their slim 2-1 home win over former league champions Enyimba in a rescheduled Matchday 20 clash played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Michael Ibe and Dennis Nya scored either side of the halftime interval to put Akwa United 2-0 up only for Flying Eagles Wasiu Alalade to pull one back eleven minutes from time for a grandstand finish but the home team held on for three crucial points in the race for the league title.
Akwa United (35 points) climb above Katsina United and Niger Tornadoes into 4th spot as a result of the win with the Promise Keepers now five points away from league leaders while Enyimba (31 points) stay in 9th spot.
