Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Akwa United failed in the bid to extend their lead at the summit after they were beaten 1-0 by their hosts MFM at the Agege Stadium on Friday evening in a rescheduled Matchday 8 clash.

Sikiru Olatunbosun was the hero for the Lagos-based side as he scored the only goal of the game on 36 minutes thus handing the home team a 4th home win of the season.

The slim loss means Akwa United (16 points) fail to extend their lead at the top of the table thus maintaining their one-point lead over nearest challengers and defending champions Plateau United while MFM (12 points) climb out of the relegation zone into the top 10.[tps_header][/tps_header]
