AKPOGUMA: Nigeria Will Be My Second Option

21-year old Kevin Akpoguma who currently plays for Hoffenheim has revealed he will only consider playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria if he is not called up by the German national team.

The defender who has been capped by Germany in all Junior levels is waiting for an invitation to Joachim Low’s side.

While speaking to reporters he said: ”The thing is that I was born in Germany and I have played for all the youth teams of Germany and I am still a young player,

”So, I want to leave it open because Germany can still call me. But if I have no other option to play for Germany, then I can consider playing for Nigeria because my dad is from Nigeria.”

Akpoguma also affirmed that he has been contacted by the Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr to consider switching allegiance to Nigeria.

He stated: “Gernot Rohr visited us here in Hoffenheim and talked a lot about the young team he is building. I saw it at the World Cup; there are very good players like Iwobi, Ndidi and Leon Balogun.

”He explained all the things because I had a good conversation with him. But as I said, I want to leave every door open. When the time comes, I will let the world know my decision,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, John Ogu has responded to the video posted on Twitter by Oma Akatugba for OMA Sports TV of the young defender’s comments, indicating that Nigeria should not be an option for anyone who desires to play for the Super Eagles.
